CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I:
Name and Address
The name of the organization shall be Dow Graduate Association of North America.
The office of the Association shall be at the address of the executive Director of the
Association or as designated by the President of the Association from time to time.
ARTICLE II:
Membership
All graduates of Dow Medical College, Karachi. Pakistan currently residing in USA
and Canada are eligible to be voting members. The privileges of voting and holding
office are, however, restricted to members whose membership dues are fully paid.
ARTICLE III:
Affiliations
The Dow Graduate Association of North America shall be a non-profit, non-political
organization. Although it shall function closely with the larger Association of Pakistani
Physicians of North America, it shall be independent organization. All attempts shall
be made to conform the certification requirements of IRS as a non-profit professional
organization.
ARTICLE IV:
Aims & Objectives
The primary purpose of the organization is to provide a forum for professional and
social interaction among Dow Graduates. The following objectives are defined to
achieve this goal:
1. Periodic meetings of Dow Graduates to facilitate better understanding of the
needs of Dow Graduates and to provide a forum to provide a leadership and
direction in the larger Association of Pakistani Physicians and other similar
medical organizations involving graduates from Pakistan.
2. Periodic publication of a newsletter for dissemination to general membership.
This newsletter shall highlight current activities of the Association and publish
information about current events and activities at Dow Medical College,
Karachi. To accomplish this, a liaison shall be established with the officials of
the parent institution and also with other alumni associations in Pakistan and
elsewhere.
3. To assist and support newly arriving Dow Graduates in providing useful
professional and other information. Towards this goal, local branches shall be
created on a regular basis.
4. To coordinate with other local medical organizations and societies.
5. To foster, preserve and perpetuate medical ethics amongst Dow Graduates.
6. To provide professional and other support to the Dow Medical College and its
students as feasible and appropriate.
ORGANIZATION COMPONENTS:
For the purpose of administrative functions, there shall be three major organizational
units.
(a) General Membership
(b) Executive Committee consisting of:
1. President
2. Immediate Past President
3. Secretary-Treasurer
4. Eight members of Executive Committee, 2 each according to US Regional
Time Zones Eastern, Central Mountain and Pacific.
5. President Elect
ELECTIONS OF OFFICE BEARERS
(a) The Executive Committee shall act as the Nominating Committee for the office of
the President-Elect and the Secretary-Treasurer for the following year and will
present at a slate to the general membership at the time of the Annual Meeting
(b) Other nominations for the Office of President and Secretary-Treasurer shall be
accepted from general members provided
1. Nomination is received, duly proposed and seconded, from eligible members
at least one week prior to the Annual Meeting.
2. The proposed officer accepts the nomination.
3. The Nominee and the members proposing and seconding shall be present at
the Annual Meeting.
(c) All councilors shall be nominated at the Annual Meeting. In the event of
vacancies remaining unfulfilled, the President may appoint Councilors from the
membership at large within three months of Annual Meeting.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
(a) Executive Director shall be nominated by the Executive Committee for the term of
five years.
(b) The function of the executive Director will be to maintain the offices of the
Association at his address, and to oversee and execute the day to day workings
of the Association in consultation with the Executive Committee.
(c) He will be a voting member of the Executive Committee.
MEETINGS
(a) General Membership
The General membership shall meet at least once every calendar year; at least
one month\\\'s notice shall be given for such a meeting.
(b) Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall meet at least once annually. Every effort will be
made by the executive Committee to hold additional meeting coinciding with the
Executive Council Meetings of the Association of Pakistani Physicians. The
President shall maintain close contact with all the members of the Executive
Committee and their input and advice and assistance shall be regularly sought.
(c) Roberts Rules of Order shall be adopted for the conduct of all meetings.
DUES:
Membership fees and annual dues shall be determined by the Executive Committee
at its annual meeting.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
The Secretary-Treasurer shall present an annual report at the General Membership
Meeting.
AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION:
(a) Amendments to the constitution may only be made at the General Membership
Meeting.
(b) Amendment may be proposed in writing by any member in good standing.
(c) The proposed amendment must be submitted to the secretary at least two weeks
prior to the Annual General Body Meeting.
(d) The Executive Committee may also propose amendments to the General
Membership.
(e) All amendments shall require 2/3 majority ratification.
(f) All amendments will become effective immediately upon adoption.
